640-911: Introducing Cisco Data Center Networking DCICN – Exam Resources

A little over a week ago I took and passed the 640-911: Introducing Cisco Data Center Networking DCICN by Cisco. I had a month to study and achieve this as my CCNA Routing and Switching was set to expire.

After much discussion and thought, I felt the CCNA Data Center was more relevant to the job I currently do. I can confirm once passed the 640-911 does extend the life of the CCNA Routing and Switching by a further 3 years.

[Review] HP ProLiant ML10 v2 – Home Lab Server

HPML10v2Front

This is a quick review on the HP ProLiant ML10 v2 server. I have been seeing lots of cashback deals lately with the HP Microserver Gen8 and HP ProLiant ML10 v2. I took this as an opportunity to grab one of each and was excited to get my hands on the HP ProLiant ML10 v2, having owned both a HP ProLiant ML115 G5 and a HP ProLiant ML110 G6, both of which still have some uses.

The HP ProLiant ML10 v2 can be had for around £110 when on offer and makes a good server for a home lab environment. I am currently using mine as a ESXi 6 host along side the ML110 G6, getting to grips with vSphere 6 ready for the VCP6-DCV exam. The best place I find for keeping an eye on deals is HotUKDeals (based in the UK).

[Review] 360 GSP – vSphere 6 – Install Configure and Manage (ICM) course

This post is a review of the vSphere 6 – Install Configure and Manage (ICM) course with 360 GSP.

I previously took the vSphere 5 ICM course via 360 GSP, the review can be read here. As I had such a good experience with 360 GSP and the excellent lecturer Dai, I decided to go back to 360 GSP and do the vSphere 6 course. Now already being VCP5-DCV certified I did not need to take the course, I could have taken the VCP6-DCV exam straight away. I liked how the course was run previously and felt this would be beneficial to me in my study plan.

Happy New Year! My goals in 2016

2016 goals

Firstly, Happy New Year everyone! I was lucky enough to watch the fireworks in London with my partner and it was so cool! For anyone that has not been before. I would highly recommend!

I did not blog last year on goals and I thought I would take this as an opportunity to do so. I do not believe in resolutions, as these tend to be short lived. Therefore I have a list of goals that I want to achieve in 2016. This will enable me to reflect on my progress at the end of the year, making a commitment to myself. Its written down, set in stone!

My Goals in 2016 are:

Surface Pro (1st gen) not sleeping since Windows 10 upgrade

I started noticing my Surface Pro (1st gen) was not going to sleep since the upgrade to Windows 10 and was draining my battery. I checked many power options, but found the Surface Type Cover Filter Device Driver was missing.

Note: I am using a Surface Type Cover and not a Surface Touch Cover. If you have a Surface Touch Cover and having issues with the device not sleeping, it may be worth trying this, though do so with caution!
